<image:title>About - Leigh Taylor Mickelson Founder & Co-Organizer</image:title>
<image:caption>Leigh’s ceramic sculpture is inspired by forms from nature, especially ones found in plant life, as a means of expressing narratives about life. Being full of dichotomy, the elements of natural forms act as a metaphor for the spiritual, emotional and physical extremes that exist within our selves, our love relationships and our family units. Leigh started her consulting business in 2019 after 22 years of experience in program development and nonprofit arts management with two arts nonprofits. Her experience as a leader of arts organizations and knowledge of event promotion has set her up as the invaluable originator and leader of the Westchester Craft Crawl organization. @ltmick www.leightaylormickelson.com</image:caption>

Whether it be for a Michelin star restaurant or your dining room table, each piece is lovingly crafted out either high fire stoneware or porcelain and glazed with completely food safe non toxic glazed made in house. Having a background in the kitchens of fine dining farm-to-table restaurants, the importance of community and food have a huge impact on my work and are at times the driving force behind it. Just as the relationships within a restaurant are vital to the Chef’s final dish, I believe that a collaboration with the Chef, the cooks, the dining staff, and the diners themselves is an integral part of my process and has a great influence on my work. <image:title>Tour Stop - Makers Central - BAT FLOWER PRESS</image:title>
<image:caption>is a continuation of artist Natalia Woodward’s long history as a printmaker. As an artist & art handler, having worked with high end art collectors and organizations such as NY’s MoMA, Natalia has spent her career around precious artwork. Bat Flower Press is about breaking down barriers of preciousness, collaborating with others, and making art approachable to everyone. As a traditional printmaker, letterpress is a new avenue for Natalia to bring her drawings to life through her love for printing. Hailing from Pereira, Colombia Natalia grew up in a community rich with art, of entrepreneurship and making. “My friends and I didn’t have any video games or cell phones growing up. Creating art was always a foundation for my community. Handmade is way of LIFE for many families where I’m from, and its always stuck with me.” And then there’s Gretta. Her journey to founding Bat Flower Press started much longer ago. Born in 1903 by parents Chandler & Price, Gretta is a lean (well, not so much), mean, printmaking machine! Like the rest of us here at Makers Central, Natalia has spent over a decade working in hospitality, and she is excited to apply her quirky and unique designs to print stationary, wedding invitations and menus for her favorite restaurants. <image:caption>a woodworking team led by Carlos Chimborazo and aided by his partner, Elena Krougliak, creates beautiful and functional pieces for restaurants or for the home. Each piece is lovingly and carefully made, highlighting the natural patterns found in the wood grain. Carlos draws on his vast experience working in a carpentry shop starting from the young age of twelve, and continuing working on his craft even while working in a fine dining farm-to-table restaurant. Both having a long background working in hospitality and restaurants, Carlos and Elena wanted to continue being able to be involved with food, dining, and that incomparable experience of building relationships and sharing conversation over a meal. So it seemed only natural that they would use locally sourced wood to create one-of-a-kind handmade pieces for the dinner table. Whether focusing on creating items for the home, or fulfilling larger orders for a restaurant, they are always challenging themselves to produce quality-made pieces that last. In addition to creating bowls, platters, and cutting boards, they also design and create larger-scale pieces ranging from built-ins to custom furniture. Visit Website @c.loscarpentry</image:caption>

<image:title>Tour Stop - Makers Central - Dan Sabia Wood fire food</image:title>
<image:caption>The concept behind Wood Fire Food is simple, to be able to tell a story through the process of doing what you love. What started off as an escape from the everyday grind turned into another way to manipulate raw material into something beautiful. Westchester born and raised, my entire childhood was based off the simple concept of work hard for what you want and try to create and make whatever you can. I love being able to take material and create something beautiful with it. Connecting a story to a product is the best feeling, being able to take salvaged wood form someone’s past and transform it into a product for someone’s future is all the inspiration I need at times. I have found the perfect balance of cooking and creating with this business between cooking over open fires, and making one of kind products through the same materials I cook over, the possibilities are endless Visit Website @wood_fire_food</image:caption>

      <image:title>Tour Stop - Makers Central - Pivot Concrete</image:title>
<image:caption>We are David and Deion, crafting handmade concrete pieces in Tarrytown, New York. Concrete is all around us, from high-rise buildings above us to the sidewalks beneath our feet. However, we want to translate that rough and industrial medium into a more approachable, tactile, and inviting aesthetic. Coming from the world of hospitality, our aim is to bring that hospitality and warmth to the home. Each piece is hand-mixed, poured, and finished, with each piece being unique from the next, yet having an undercurrent of consistency. Our work is also shaped by our experiences in the food world. Diverting products from the waste stream, environmental impact, and meticulous detail on the final product, all resonate within each piece brought forward. We are excited to embark on this adventure in the Hudson Valley, and are even more excited to share it with you. @pivot_concrete</image:caption>

<image:caption>We brew old-world craft beer in an 1890's building nestled between the mighty Hudson River and the charming Main Street of Tarrytown, NY. Our traditional recipes include local New York State ingredients that respect historic beer influences. We follow centuries-old traditions: measuring ingredients by hand, growing hops in the village, and stirring the wort with a giant spoon. Our beers are made to match the seasons: light, citrus flavors in the warmer months and dark, fruity flavors in the colder months. We focus on Tripels, Quadrupels, and sour ales - producing one barrel at a time and carefully aging it until it's ready for tapping. It's our sincere hope that Duncan's Abbey brings strangers together to share food, drink, and stories - and that those strangers quickly become friends. Proost! Visit Website</image:caption>

Loren holds a BFA from Syracuse University where she first found her love of clay studying with David MacDonald. She spent 10 years at the Westchester Art Workshop in White Plains, NY before moving to the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY in 2002.She has taken numerous workshops with many notable ceramists. Many of whom have influenced her work today. Loren maintains a studio at her home in Ossining, NY and is an Associate Artist at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY. <image:caption>I have been a full time working metalsmith for 14 years, largely self taught in developing my recognizable style and design. I sculpt recycled silver & gold with torches and antique hammers, files and hand tools to achieve work that is deep in textures. Many of my creations incorporate ethically sourced gemstones and minerals in vivid colors and amazing shapes. Others are just rugged interpretations of the natural world around me here in Maine. Each piece of jewelry has a patina and a hand polish that reveals my expressive techniques. I pride myself in the ability to create work that is organic in style, bold in structure and grounded in an energy that allows the wearer to experience the elemental intent in its creation. <image:caption>My shop has been creating custom woodworking pieces using both sustainable resources and traditional lumber in Lower Hudson Valley since 2006. I try to utilize as much local wood as I can. Milling and drying from logs here in the lower Hudson Valley of NY has allowed me to expand my capabilities and forced me to think outside my comfort zone. It has also taught me much more about the characteristics of various wood species and given me a new consciousness of how precious our resources are. I try to use every single piece of wood I cut. Even the smallest cutoffs can be flattened and glued together to create “chaos” pieces. Ornaments, bowls, knife handles… I’m always excited and surprised when the little bits from a larger creation can reunite to make smaller but sometimes even more beautiful works of art. <image:caption>Everything motivates me to create: a winter sunset, a branch, a bug, a tiny flower, the all-powerful sea. Natural forms are the inspiration for my designs, each one of a kind executed in sterling silver, 18 karat gold and precious and semiprecious stones. I’ve been designing and creating jewelry since 1996. I show my work in many galleries and shops in Maine and beyond. I also have a network of private clients for whom I do custom work. I maintain a home studio where I can design and fabricate constantly and consistently. Form, texture, and color meld together as I bend and solder and patinate. I was trained in sculpture at Boston University. For four years I carved stone, pushed clay and welded steel. I moved to Maine in 1995, and lacking a large studio, I gravitated toward jewelry where all I needed was a bench and a torch. I continued my studies at Maine College of Art, Metalwerx, Haystack, and privately with several Maine jewelers, who are now my colleagues. I am always trying to push my metalwork and design sense to new levels. View Website @christinepetersjewelry</image:caption>

I take these varied influences and distill them into wearable art. Working in my Thornwood, NY studio, I use sterling silver and 14K gold to hand fabricate jewelry enhanced by the beauty of materials like colored glass smalti, abalone shell, porcelain, and more. One example is my line of asymmetric paired loops, earrings that start from the same piece of metal, then split apart to make two elements that are not identical but relate to each other through the way they were made. Picture a long strip of linguini being cut lengthwise in a wavy line with each half becoming a looped earring and you will get the idea. Most of my work is made with the same foundational skills I often pass on to beginner metalsmithing students, like piercing and casting. I keep my methods relatively traditional but use them to create pieces that feel minimalist and sculptural. I happily live and maintain a studio in the heart of New York's Hudson Valley. <image:caption>As a woman, mother, and leader, I am driven by love and a deep passion for what I do. My designing dreams began 27 years ago when I enrolled in a cutting and sewing academy in Cuenca, Ecuador. After moving to the United States, I worked with interior designers creating home decor pieces. I fell in love with leather materials working in the assembly and packaging of designer handbags. That experience gave me the skills necessary to design my own bags. In 2019, I realized my dream and launched my own line of leather products. My goal is to create beautiful and functional handbags that are unique, making every customer feel special and confident. I offer exclusive designs, in different colors and sizes to suit any taste and need. I use only the highest-quality leather, sourced from top suppliers in Italy and Brazil. Whether you're looking for a stylish clutch for a night out or a spacious tote bag for everyday use, I’ve got your bag…as well as keychains, totes, backpacks, card holders, wallets, and more. <image:caption>I have been working in pottery for 17 years. In that time, I have been drawn to a traditional style that has its roots in the aesthetics of Japanese and Korean pottery. My firing process uses a wood kiln that is fired around the clock for 3 to 7 days. Starting with traditional forms and firing processes has allowed my to create a jumping of place that gives me freedom to develop my own artistic voice. I have recently added a new soft forms dimension to my vocabulary. My functional work includes soft bowls, plates and vases, as well as sakes sets, tea bowls, and yunomi. The work encompasses three themes: plain forms that embrace simplicity and grace; rough textured forms that create a feeling of coming directly from the earth and a flowing style that is evocative of mountain ridges. @deborahheid</image:caption>

<image:title>Tour Stop - Stone Avenue Stop - resetreality I draw from a myriad of experiences since my path as an artist has been nonlinear. I graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts with my BFA in Fine Arts in 2010, and currently live and work in New York City. I’ve continued to make work over the last decade while juggling all sorts of day jobs, including managing a Starbucks in Times Square where I learned how to juggle unexpected situations and react quickly and creatively to problems. I took on additional part time jobs in libraries and museums over the years, often working seven days a week to make ends meet. Today, I work at the Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Columbia University and am pursuing a Masters in Nonprofit Management. Living a full, curious life has deeply impacted the way I work and think about and create art.</image:title>

As a young mother and artist, I was searching for something that could incorporate my love of art and the home—and create a way for me to stay at home with my son. I never imagined that these bowls would one day be offered around the world. No business plan, just love in a bowl, and 25 years later we are more celebrated than ever. The magic is not just in the creation of each bowl, but about what happens in and around it. Savor, slow down, eat well, love life. I still live on my little one lane road where we create the bowls, one by one, in my studio. <image:title>Tour Stop - Sherwood Forest Design - red rover clothing</image:title>
<image:caption>I have been sewing since I was a young girl. My mother is an artist and seamstress, and she always had a closet of fabrics and a project in the works. We made many trips to the local mill “outlet stores” (when they were actually attached to working mills) and dug through tables of remnants to find just the perfect piece of fabric for the current project or one to be thought of later. I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in textile design, but spent most of my time there turning my woven or printed fabrics into clothing, some of it wearable and some weird. All of the fabrics then were of natural fibers, silks, wool or cotton. It is amusing to me now that my line is mostly made of synthetic Polartec® and rainwear fabric. My early years in the real world were working in small studios for other designers and in retail shops both large and small. I started Red Rover Clothing in 1993 when my children, Kate and James were just starting school. I packed up my old car and with a friend headed to a crafts fair in the Berkshires. I got a great response to the clothing and was on my way. Twenty five or so years later, I have many national galleries and stores that sell my work as well as my own seasonal store here at the studio. I still participate in the craft fairs where I began, as well as many others on the eastern coast. My designs are influenced in part from watching what people wear and what makes them feel comfortable and special. My customers often relate stories of the many compliments they get wearing my work. I use color, texture and detail to make the clothing unusual, but not over the top. The ribbon trims that embellish my work are my own design (my textile skills in miniature width). All of the clothing is designed and sewn in Massachusetts with the help of my assistants. I feel fortunate to be able to do what I love. View Website @redroverclothing</image:caption>

<image:caption>Alex’s work create is a meditation on memories and experiences, hopes and desires. The medium of clay is a meditative process in its own right and Alex applies that experience throughout the entire making process. This functional work addresses the awareness of self and how one’s experiences shape their personality and worldview. Through the use of these functional objects you confront your own stories and impart your history on the narratives decorating these surfaces. This work is intended to be a catalyst for thoughtful moments through every day use. By finding connections between the object and your body–as you nourish one with the other–you feed your mind and self. View Website @afitzpottery</image:caption>

<image:caption>Amy makes jewelry out of her home studio in Katonah; her primary medium is enamel, which she uses to craft pieces inspired by nature. She also does metalwork, torch-fusing fine silver into organic shapes, and some work in kiln-fused glass, echoing her enamel jewelry in a larger form. Amy began taking metal workshops in 2016, but was a full-time high school teacher until 2019 so wasn’t able to devote the time she wanted. In 2020 she found enameling and fell in love; she now spends most of her time in her studio. Visit Website @amylydiaarts</image:caption>

<image:caption>Originally from Croton-on-Hudson, NY and now living in Providence RI, I find my subject matter for my fabrics in abandon and deteriorating spaces. Because these spaces have been left to crumble on their own, the texture and color created by the passing of time are viscerally and inexplicably stimulating. They become the raw resources for my bespoke textile collection. In the studio I use a potato starch resist to express these textures onto cloth. In addition to the starch resist, I also painted directly onto cloth and use a variety of shibori techniques to assist in representing my findings. Expanding on what I have learned the past 18 years as co-owner of Moon Tide Dyers, a handmade and dyed clothing brand, I continue to create everyday wearables for the individual. The brand, Marvalina, is my new adventure as an archaeologist of texture and color, capturing the passing of time on cloth. Marvalina’s collection consists of simple, everyday garments that are soft, washable, and you will look and feel great in. Visit Website @marvalinaclothing</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jennifer Larrabee is a Fiber Artist living in Cortlandt Manor, NY. Although a lifelong crafter, her quilting journey only began in 2006. She was going to buy a gift for a baby shower, when her son, then 3 years old said “You should make the new baby a quilt, like your friend made for me”. Knowing nothing about quilting, with her best scissors being gardening shears, and not really even sure how to use a sewing machine, Jennifer responded “OK”. A frustrating week later, with no instruction, she had made a quilt, and acquired an addiction. Since then, Jennifer has read books, taken workshops, upgraded her equipment, and amassed an astonishing stash of fabric. Visit Website @jenericbags</image:caption>
